{"id":1100,"date":"2016-06-15T06:52:28","date_gmt":"2016-06-15T13:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatamericanegg.com\/blog\/?p=1100"},"modified":"2016-06-21T21:25:16","modified_gmt":"2016-06-22T04:25:16","slug":"fresh-chicken-larder-day-61916-9-11am","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greatamericanegg.com\/blog\/fresh-chicken-larder-day-61916-9-11am\/","title":{"rendered":"** SOLD OUT ** Fresh Chicken Larder Day &#8211; 6\/19\/16 9-11am"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chicken Larder Days are Back!<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<table width=\"400\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/greatamericanegg.us2.list-manage1.com\/track\/click?u=abbe6f77a82ffaa07073e957a&amp;id=6a85a875d5&amp;e=1dcb8a2c43\">Sign up HERE for fresh chicken this coming Sunday 6\/19\/16 from 9-11am!!<\/a><br \/>\nI know it has been a while, but activity on the farm seems to ramp up with the warm weather. \u00a0We are feeling pretty organized this spring all things considered. \u00a0Let\u2019s do a quick run down of the enterprises on the farm:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eggs<\/strong><br \/>\nAs you may know after visiting the Farmer\u2019s Market we don\u2019t have eggs \u2013 yet! \u00a0We have lots of young pullets that have yet to start laying. \u00a0If all things go well they should start dropping rooster eggs any day now and hopefully we will have a strong summer of eggs before the molt kicks in. \u00a0We have reduced our wholesale outlets of eggs to just Devores Good Food and Rockin\u2019 Daves this year in order to bring more eggs to the markets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hogs<\/strong><br \/>\nThe big news here is that we finally have a grinder for our hog feed. \u00a0What a difference this has made in growth rates. \u00a0We should be offering up classes again around the end of June through July. \u00a0Also, the local slaughterhouse is now able to cure bacon for us- this has lead to a nice price reduction \u2013 about 25%. \u00a0The bacon is now dry cured instead of wet\/injection cured like before. \u00a0This old school \u2018salt box\u2019 method of curing has a great taste and texture that we really enjoy. \u00a0Also, the meat that is at the market right now is primarily Berkshire. \u00a0Later this summer and for the classes will be predominately Duroc pigs. \u00a0A good time to compare which breed you like better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Turkeys<\/strong><br \/>\nSeems like Turkeys always give us trouble!?! \u00a0Last year we definitely started our poults too late and ended up with a pretty small bird for the Thanksgiving table. \u00a0Thanks much for your understanding and know that we are taking corrective action and should have day old poults several weeks earlier this year. \u00a0Plus I am going to expand a meal worm experiment that we started last year- keep your fingers crossed! \u00a0We will post turkeys in the store once we get a good feel for how many we will have to offer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Broilers<\/strong><br \/>\nAlright- broiler season is \u2013 RIGHT NOW! \u00a0We are fully queued up in the brooders and in the pasture with broilers. \u00a0We started butchering in late May to stock up for the markets and grocery stores and now we are ready for our first Larder Day of the season. \u00a0These larder days have been great- no need for us to freeze, store and peddle- just straight from the chill tank to your freezer! \u00a0Of course, there are financial rewards for such a simple transaction- we sell to you at $3.50\/lb and we get paid right away! \u00a0Perfect. \u00a0The price of broilers has been climbing \u2013 some farms in the valley are now selling for $7\/lb which must require sales skills even Anita doesn\u2019t have!?!<\/p>\n<p>Anyway&#8230;.we hope to see you this weekend! \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/greatamericanegg.us2.list-manage1.com\/track\/click?u=abbe6f77a82ffaa07073e957a&amp;id=77c03ac758&amp;e=1dcb8a2c43\">HERE is the link one more time!<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chicken Larder Days are Back!
